WCP presents “A Leading Woman”

Waukegan Community Players presents the premier production of “A Leading Woman”, written by Chicago playwright Joanne Koch.

Performances will be May 7th, 8th, 9th, 14th, & 15th in Waukegan.

Auditions will be March 28th from 3-6 pm and March 31st, 7-9:30 pm, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 910 14th St., North Chicago. No appointments necessary. There is no pay.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. The cast includes 7 men and 5 women, ages 20s through 60s, plus two female extras who fill out scenes throughout the show. Ethnically diverse auditioners are encouraged to attend. Those auditioning for Cohan, Fiona, Grace or Benjamin are requested to prepare a song in the style of Cohan or Gershwin. The remaining roles have no singing. For the roles of Cohan and Gershwin, ability to play the piano is preferable, but not required.

Georgie Gershwin — a song plugger and struggling composer who plays transitional music and underscoring, occasionally plugging his own new song, “Swanee”
Sime Silverman — editor of Variety, a new publication on the entertainment industry
Robert Shermer — a New York Producer
Julia Nielsen — faithful secretary to Mr. Shermer
Grace Partridge — a veteran actress
Hepsibah Talleyrand — a flamboyant actress of a certain undisclosed age
Fiona Lovelace — a young actress and suffragist
Benjamin Brookings — a young actor/director
Mendel Lebidov — a handsome Russian actor
Craig Whitaker — a middle-aged leading man trained in the old school of acting
Mrs. Minnie Maddern Fiske — the most famous serious American actress of the early 20th century
George M. Cohan — a successful performer/composer/producer
